It took me forever to find a good solution for my freezing basement… I purchased my apartment because the basement was completely finished plus I thought that I’d spend a lot of time down there. I had dreams of watching movies, building a apartment gym, plus creating a guest room. Before I moved in, I saw myself using the basement more than any other room! Unfortunately, since the basement is underground, it’s a lot colder than any other room in the house, but there are only a few weeks during the entire year that I can utilize the basement space comfortably. I found myself rarely going into the basement plus it entirely bummed me out. This is when I tried to find a solution for the temperature problem. I hired an HVAC professional to come assess my basement plus my HVAC system plus she gave me two possibilities to choose from. The first choice was more high-priced, which entirely turned me off, and she commanded that since the basement was already affixed to the air duct, I could add the basement as a second zone plus install it’s own control unit, other than being too high-priced, this choice also meant that I’d have to remember to program the control unit plus supply it enough time to moderate up the space before I was ready to use it. The second choice was a ductless mini split system. It could affix to the electricity plus be turned on plus off depending if I wanted to use the space. The ductless mini split system was cheaper plus quicker to heat plus cool the space, without affecting my central HVAC system, so I chose that option!
