Don’t be a dope about the HVAC warranty

Instead of calling the HVAC professionals, I decided to go online and self diagnose my heat pump.

My old man was always on my case. That guy was a hard core Marine and it was his way inside the central air conditioning of his house. And it was his house, there was no question about that. One his favorite things to say was to tell me not to be a dope. Well, when it came to the air conditioning in my home, I was a total dope. It all started innocently enough. I came home to find my house all hot and sticky. It was a late summer afternoon and I was expecting to walk into a wall of air conditioning. Instead, I walked into a swampy house that hadn’t had any cooling in hours. I noted immediately that the heat pump was not running even though it was in the middle 90’s outside. So I walked over to the thermostat to make sure that there was power. The thermostat was lit up like it always is and the fan to the HVAC unit was able to come on. But when I flipped it back and forth to cooling I could not get any air conditioning. I think had the whole thing not had any power or done anything, I might have called the HVAC company first. But what I did next is something that I still regret. Instead of calling the HVAC professionals, I decided to go online and self diagnose my heat pump. This is a huge mistake that I sort of knew I was making as it was happening. I can be pigheaded about things that I want to solve immediately. And I definitely wanted some cooling comfort in that house as quickly as possible. But, I ended up being the dope who voided the warranty on his HVAC because he tried to work on it.
